Lesson Introduction
The following quote will be displayed on the board: "President Woodrow Wilson's blueprint for a new world order was National Self-Determination. That is to say that peoples should determine their own form of government and that the people should be sovereign and that, out of the ashes of the old order imperial powers, there should emerge new, self-governing nations.”- Sir Michael Howard, historian.

The teacher will place the students in groups of 3. The teacher will provide the students with 2 blank maps of Europe. The teacher will discuss the instructions of the hand out and how to use the online assignment. One map is of pre-World War I Europe and the second is of post-World War I
Student Engagement
With their group, students will go the link World War I Map Interactive provided by the teacher and click on each Country provided on the interactive map. Students will label their maps identifying the territories of pre-World War I Europe and territories that were created as a result of the Treaty of Versailles. Students will list one fact about the following countries before WW I and one fact after WW I:

Assessment
Formative: Teacher will monitor students on their map identification handouts. Teacher will as critical thinking questions during lesson introduction.
Summative: Teacher will assess student’s work on Map Identification handout and assess how well they understood lesson through the exit cards they will submit upon leaving the classroom.

Accommodations for English Learners, Striving Readers and Students with Special Needs
EL, Striving Reader, and students with special needs will be placed in groups with students who meet proficiency level in order to assist them when necessary. These students will receive a vocab handout with additional words provided that may need more clarification. In addition, the teacher will define vocab in class that these students may find in their interactive readings.
